Aktug, Mehmet (b. May 30, 1959, Istanbul). Turkish composer of mostly orchestral and chamber works that have been performed in Europe and elsewhere.
Mr. Aktug studied violin with Hazar Alapinar at the State Conservatory of Dokuz Eylül University in Izmir from 1970-76, where he later studied composition with Muammer Sun from 1976-80. He then studied composition with Günther Becker at the Robert-Schumann-Institut in Düsseldorf from 1980-87.
His music has represented Turkey at the UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers four times (1989, Ohne Titel; 1990, Wagenaugen; 1991, Fine Esilio; 2003, Odyssee). His music has been performed in Cuba, Ecuador, France, Germany, Turkey, and the USA.
He has taught music theory and solfège at the State Conservatory of Dokuz Eylül University since 1987.
