THE LIVING COMPOSERS PROJECT  

Jana Andreevska

(b. 27 April 1967, Skopje).

North Macedonian composer of mostly orchestral and piano works that have been performed throughout Europe.

Ms. Andreevska studied composition at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje and there earned her BMus in 1990 and her MMus in 1999. She later attended three workshops in Ohrid, North Macedonia from 1999–2001.

Among her honours are the Special Award as Best Student from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University (1989–90), a scholarship from the section in Poland of ISCM (1993, to attend a seminar in Poland), a scholarship from the Stichting Gaudeamus in Amsterdam (1994), a research fellowship at Arizona State University (2001), and a commission from the festival Dresdner Tage der zeitgenössischen Musik (2004). Her works have been performed in Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Moldova, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, and Ukraine.

She is also active in other positions. She worked as a producer in classical music for North Macedonian Radio and TV from 1991–95. She has served as a member of the Assembly of the North Macedonian Music Copyright and Royalties Association in Skopje since 1998 and the Presidency of the North Macedonian Composers Association in Skopje since 2000. In addition, she served as a member of the Cultural Board of the Soros Foundation in Skopje from 1997–99.

She taught composition and music theory as an assistant at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University from 1995–2003, where she has taught the same subjects as an assistant professor since 2003. She has lectured in North Macedonia and the USA.
