THE LIVING COMPOSERS PROJECT  

Garo Avesian

(b. 28 April 1979, Beirut).

Armenian composer, born in Lebanon and now resident in Lebanon, of mostly chamber works that have been performed in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Mr. Avesian studied piano privately with Gayane Torosyan in Beirut from 1992–95 and with Marina Adalyan at a music school in Beirut from 1995–2000, as well as composition, harmony, music theory, orchestration, and solfège privately with Vache Kalenderyan in Beirut from 1998–2000. He studied composition with Ashot Zohrabyan at the Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan from 2001–06, where he also studied conducting with Aram Harabekyan from 2003–07 and where he earned master's degrees with honours in both subjects.

Among his honours are Third Prize in the competition for vocal music Ghazaros Saryan in Yerevan (2004, for Three Kuchak Hairens) and recognition as the healthiest person in Armenia (2005). He was also a finalist in the category Film Music of the competition for young composers of the Narekatsi Art Institute in Yerevan (2006, for Embers of the Sun [imposed film]).

He has lived in Lebanon since 2007.
