Kazakh composer of mostly chamber works that have been performed in Europe and elsewhere.
Mr. Baiterekov studied piano with Eleonora Kasimova at the P. I. Tchaikovsky College of Music in Almaty, where he graduated in 2007, then studied composition at the Kazakh National Academy of Music in Nur-Sultan from 2007–09. He studied composition with Leonid Bobylev at the P. I. Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow from 2009–13, with whom he had postgraduate studies in composition there from 2013–15. In addition, he participated twice in the International Academy for Young Composers of the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble and once in the Summer Composition Institute at Harvard University.
Among his honours are First Prize in the competition for young composers Samal in Nur-Sultan (2008, for Duman [withdrawn]), Second Prize in the competition Astana-Bayterek in Nur-Sultan (2008, for Trio, 'In Memory of a Great Master' [withdrawn]), First Prize in the competition to create works for the compulsory round of the competition for winds and percussion of the P. I. Tchaikovsky State Conservatory (2010, for Echo), Second Prize in the competition for young composers pre-art in Zürich (2011, for Tolkyn – The Wave), Second Prize in the competition for young composers P. Jurgenson in Moscow (2013, for El Niño), and Second Prize in the competition New Music Generation in Nur-Sultan (2020).
He is also active in other positions. He served as chair of the club for young composers at the P. I. Tchaikovsky State Conservatory from 2011–15. He founded the contemporary-music ensemble Eegeru in Kazakhstan in 2015 and has served as its artistic director since 2015. In addition, he served as artistic director of the contemporary-music festival Nauryz-21 in Kazakhstan in 2016 and 2018 and of the festival EEGERU Connect in 2018.
He taught composition at the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory in Almaty from 2015–19, where he also served as director of the Center of Contemporary Music from 2015–19.
