Campo, Régis (b. 1968, Marseille). French composer of stage, orchestral, chamber, choral, vocal, piano, and organ works that have been performed throughout Europe, as well as in Japan, the USA and elsewhere.
Mr. Campo initially studied composition with Georges Buf at the Conservatoire de Marseille, as well as philosophy in Aix-en-Provence. He then studied composition with Gérard Grisey at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he earned the Premier Prix de Composition in 1995. He also studied composition privately with Edison Denisov and Henri Dutilleux.
His honors include the Gaudeamus Prijs (1996, for Commedia), First Prize, Prix Spécial du Jeune Compositeur and Prix du Public in the Henri Dutilleux competition (1996, for Exsultate Jubilate), the Prix Hervé Dugardin from SACEM (1999), and the Prix Pierre Cardin from the Académie des Beaux-Arts (1999). In addition, he stayed at the Villa Medici in Rome (1999-2001) and was twice a finalist for the composition prize of the Fondation Prince Pierre de Monaco (2001, for Les Jeux de Rabelais; 2002, for Faërie). He has worked closely with the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra and its conductor Kent Nagano, who conducted the premières of his Lumen (2001) and Symphonie No. 1 (2003).
Éditions Lemoine publishes his recent music, but Alphonse Leduc, Le Chant du Monde, Éditions Armiane, and Éditions Gérard Billaudot publish some earlier pieces.
