Chan Cheong Jan (b. December 28, 1969, Seremban). Malaysian composer of mostly orchestral and chamber works and arrangements that have been performed in Asia; he is also active as a pianist.
Dr. Chan received his BEdu (1994) and MEdu (1996) in composition and music education at the Kyoto University of Education and his DLit in ethnomusicology and music education at Osaka University in 2002.
He is also active in music research, notably on the Malay folksongs of Ulu Tembeling, for which he received grants from the government of Malaysia and the Award from the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science.
As a pianist, he often plays in the jazz trio Jazz It in Kuala Lumpur.
Since 1996, he has lectured on composition and music education at the Universiti Putra Malaysia, where he also supervises research projects and trains the chorus. As a committee member of the Malaysian Association of Music Education, he helped to organize the First National Music Education Conference in Kuala Lumpur in 2002.
