Colardo, Giuseppe (b. 1953, Campobasso).
Italian composer of mostly orchestral, chamber and vocal works that have been
successfully performed throughout Europe; he has also performed as a pianist.
Mr. Colardo studied at the Conservatorio di Milano and graduated in piano (1975, with Piero Rattalino) and composition (1980, with Renato Dionisi and Azio Corghi). In 1982, he participated in postgraduate studies at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, where he studied with Franco Donatoni and took his diploma with high honors.
He has received awards from numerous international and national composition competitions, including First prizes from the Okanagan Music Festival for Composers (Canada, 1983), ALEA III (Boston, 1985), the Concorso Internazionale at the Accademia Briccialdi (Terni, 1985), and the Rencontres International de Chant Choral (Tours, 1985).
In Italy, his works have been heard at the Autunno Musicale and Traiettorie sonore (Como), the Milano Classica, the Novurgia and the Progetto Dyonisos-Musica 2000 (Milan) and the Interensemble Week (Padua) festivals. In addition, the Accademia Filarmonica, the Nuova Consonanza, the Nuova Musica Italiana, and Nuovi Spazi Musicali (directed by Ada Gentile) (Rome), the Festival Musica 900 (Trento), the Antidogma and the Rive-Gauche Concerti (Turin), and the Sonopoli (Venice) festivals have all featured his music.
Abroad, his music has been performed at many festivals, including three times at the Gaudeamus Music Week (1980, 1982, 1984), as well as at the Almeida (London), Nieuwe Muziek (Middelburg), the Φrebro (Sweden), and the Semaine de Musique Contemporaine Italienne and has also been broadcast throughout Europe.
Since 1983, he has taught composition at the Conservatorio di Milano and he previously taught at the Conservatorio di Mantua.
Edipan is the principal publisher of his works until 1992, while Rugginenti also publishes some of his early works.
He is married to the
composer Sonia Bo.
