(b. 2 October 1966, Güímar, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands).
Spanish composer of mostly orchestral, chamber and choral works that have been performed throughout Europe; he is also active as a conductor.
Mr. Curbelo began composing before he had a formal musical education. He studied conducting, saxophone and various aspects of music at the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Santa Cruz de Tenerife from 1983–93.
Among his honours is the Premio de la Música Miguel Castillo Modalidad Composición de la Ciudad de Güímar (2005, for Cuadros de Goymad [withdrawn]).
As a conductor, he served as director of the symphonic band on the island of El Hierro, Canary Islands from 1990–93, of the Agrupación la Filarmónica de Los Realejos from 1994–96 and of the Agrupación Musical Orotava in La Orotava from 1997–99.
He taught as a professor on the island of El Hierro, Canary Islands from 1990–93 and as a professor of musical language in La Orotava from 1997–99.
Some of his scores are held at the P. I. Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow.
