T he Living Composers Project  

Escalante Chernova, Irina (b. May 20, 1977, Camagüey). Cuban composer of primarily chamber and electroacoustic works that have been successfully broadcast and performed throughout the Americas and in Europe.

Ms. Escalante studied composition with Louis Aguirre, Carlos Fariñas and Roberto Valera. She now studies at the electronic music studio of the Higher Institute of Arts in Cuba.

Among her honors are two First prizes in Chamber Music at the UNEAC Competition in Santa Clara (1998, for String Quartet No. 1; 2000, for Quartet No. 1) and First Prize in the International Competition of Electroacoustic Music and Sonic Art (2000, for La primavera del Ángel).

She has participated in numerous festivals, including the Barcelona International Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Arts and the International Computer Music Conference in Havana.
