T he Living Composers Project  

Faria Gomes, Pedro (b. October 2, 1979, Lisbon). Portuguese composer of mostly orchestral, chamber, vocal, and piano works that have been performed in Europe; he is also active as a pianist.

Mr. Faria studied piano with Leonor Fernandes at the Academia de Música de Santa Cecília in Lisbon from 1989-2001, where he also studied composition with João Madureira from 1994-97. He then studied composition with Sérgio Azevedo, Christopher Bochmann, Carlos Caires, Eurico Carrapatoso, Roberto Alejandro Pérez, and others at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa from 1997-2001. In addition, he has attended a composition seminar with Christian Manen in Nice and conducting classes with Jean-Marc Burfin at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra in Lisbon.

His honors include a commission from the Teatro Nacional S. João in Porto (2003, for Crónica de dor e morteCarta de Anrique da Mota a D. João III).

As a pianist, he has performed his own music, as well as new works by many Portuguese composers.

He has taught analysis at the Conservatório Metropolitano de Música in Lisbon since 1999 and composition at the Academia de Música de Santa Cecília in Lisbon since 2002. He also taught composition at the Escola Profissional de Música in Almada in 2001-02.

In addition to the works listed below, Mr. Faria has made numerous arrangements for the male vocal group Tetvocal.
