Gasser, Ulrich
(b. April 19, 1950, Frauenfeld). Swiss composer of orchestral, chamber, choral,
vocal, piano, and organ works that have been performed throughout Europe.
Mr. Gasser studied transverse flute
at the Konservatorium Winterthur, then with André Jaunet at the Konservatorium
Zürich and at the same time, composition with Klaus
Huber at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg from
1974-77.
He has earned many honors, including
an award from the Boswil Seminar (1974) and two from the Gaudeamus Composers
Competition (1975-76), as well as Second Prize in the Ensemblia Competition in
Mönchengladbach (1982), First Prize in the competition of the Bach-Akademie in
Stuttgart (1985), and the Thurgauer Kulturpreis (1991).
For many years, he worked with the
Pro Musica Zürich and with the Musikkommission of the Künstlerhaus Boswil. From
1992-98, he served as the first president of the Forum andere Musik in
Kreuzlingen and from 1994-2003, he served as president of the Schweizer
Musikedition. He has been a board member of the Schweizerischer
Tonkünstlerverein since 1998 (president since 2002) and of the Verein
Suisseculture since 1999.
Since 1976, he has taught at the
Seminar Kreuzlingen.
Jecklin Zürich publishes most of his
music, but Ricordi publishes some of his early scores.
