Gorelova, Galina (b. 1951, Minsk). Belarusian composer of orchestral, chamber, choral, vocal, and piano works that have been performed in Europe and elsewhere.
Ms. Gorelova studied composition with Anatoly Bogatyryov and Dmitry Smolsky at the Belarusian Academy of Music in Minsk from 1972–79 and with Yuri Fortunatov at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow from 1980–87.
Among her honors are the State Prize of Belarus (1992, for Anno mundi ardentis) and the Special Prize of the President of Belarus (2001, for Concerto [2 trumpets]). Her music has been performed in Belarus, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Ukraine, and the USA.
Ms. Gorelova is also active in other positions. She co-founded with Sergey Beltiukov, Vyacheslav Kuznetsov, Dmitry Lybin, Yevgeny Poplavsky, and others the Belarusian Society for Contemporary Music in 1990.
She has taught composition, orchestral history and polyphony at the Belarusian Academy of Music in Minsk since 1980.
In addition to the works listed below, Ms. Gorelova has composed incidental music for many radio, stage and TV productions.
