Harizanos, Nickos (b. January 21, 1969, Athens). Greek composer of mostly orchestral, chamber and piano works that have been performed in Europe.
Mr. Harizanos studied composition, counterpoint, fugue, harmony, and orchestration with Spiros Klapsis and Christos Lambrianidis at the National Conservatory of Greece in Athens from 1992-99. He then studied composition with John Casken and Geoffrey Poole at the University of Manchester in 2000-01, where he earned his MMus. He has also attended seminars by Theodore Antoniou, Charles Camilleri, Zoran Eric, and Christos Lambrianidis and studied art history at the Archaeological Institute of Athens from 1994-96.
His honors include First Prize in a national competition in Athens (1994, for Melancholy, Op. 5). His music has been performed in Greece, Romania, Ukraine, and the UK, including at a concert organized by the Greek Embassy in Bucharest (2003) and at the International Youth Music Forum in Kyiv (2003).
He has taught composition, counterpoint, fugue, and harmony at the Corelli Conservatory in Rhodes since 2001.
In addition to the works listed below, Mr. Harizanos has composed music for many theatre and TV productions in both Greece and the UK.
