THE LIVING COMPOSERS PROJECT  

Alan Hilario

(b. 1967, Manila).

Filipino composer, now resident in Germany, of mostly chamber and multimedia works that have been performed in Europe.

Mr. Hilario studied violin as a scholar of the Philippine High School for the Arts in Los Baños, Laguna from 1979–83 and had private lessons in violin with Gilopez Kabayao from 1985–89. He studied composition with Ramón Pagayon Santos and Josefino Chino Toledo at the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City from 1985–88. He later studied composition with Mathias Spahlinger and electronic music with Mesías Maiguashca at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg in Freiburg im Breisgau from 1992–96, on a scholarship from the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst.

Among his honours are the Kompositionspreis from the city of Stuttgart (1997) and the Kunstpreis Berlin, Musik from the Akademie der Künste in Berlin (2011).

He is also active in other positions. He participated in numerous projects with film and theatre directors in the Philippines from 1985–92 and performed as a violinist in the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra in Manila from 1988–92.

He lectured at the Ferienkurse in Darmstadt in 2000.

He has lived in Germany since 1992.
