T he Living Composers Project  

Knight, Edward (b. 1961, Ann Arbor, Michigan). American composer of mostly orchestral and chamber works that have been successfully performed in Europe and the USA.

Dr. Knight received his BMus from Eastern Michigan University (1983) and his MMus (1985) and DMA (1988) from the University of Texas at Austin. He later studied privately with John Corigliano and did his postdoctoral studies at the Royal College of Music in London (1988-89).

He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Sir Arthur Bliss Memorial Award from the Royal College of Music (1989, the first American awarded this prize), First Prize in the National Orchestra Association’s New Music Orchestral Project (1991) and the Rudolf Nissim Award from ASCAP (1994). More recently, he was awarded two residencies at the Yaddo Arts Colony in New York (2001-02) and was named the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association Composer of the Year (2001) and the Musician of the Year by the Oklahoma Federation of Music Clubs (2002).

He has also received ASCAP StandardPlus awards annually since 1990 and commendations from Vienna Modern Masters (1990), the Bergen Festival (1996) and both the House of Representatives and Senate of Oklahoma (2002).

From 1992-94, he was a visiting assistant professor at the City University of New York and since 1997, he has served as associate professor and composer-in-residence at Oklahoma City University.
