T he Living Composers Project  

Nour-Eddien, Bassam (b. April 6, 1977, Al-Jahra). Kuwaiti-born Egyptian composer of orchestral, chamber, choral, and piano works that have been performed in Egypt and Jordan.

Mr. Nour-Eddien studied piano as a child in Kuwait and Cairo, taught himself guitar at age 14 and bass guitar at age 18 and studied bass guitar privately with Ahmed Anwar and Vasily Shenkarenko in Cairo from 1996-2001. He studied cello with Mahmoud Abdel-Maksoud and piano with Elena Djamashvili at the Conservatory of Music in Cairo, where he graduated with distinction in 2000, and has studied composition there with Rageh Daoud, composition, harmony, orchestration, and score reading with Ahmed El-Saedi and counterpoint with Awatif Abdel-Karim since 2003. In addition, he has studied singing privately with Sobhi Bidder, Violet Makkar and Raouf Zeydan in Cairo since 2000.

His honors include the Composition Prize from the Committee of Music, Opera and Ballet in Cairo (2003, for Egyptian Suite; 2005, for Destiny and Nightmare) and selection to participate in the ISCM Global Interplay seminars in Egypt and Germany (2005).

He is also active in other positions. As a tenor leggiero, he has been a member of the A Cappella Choir in Cairo since 1998.

He has lived in Egypt since 1985.
