T he Living Composers Project  

Österling, Fredrik (b. February 12, 1966, Gällivare). Swedish composer of stage, orchestral, chamber, choral, and vocal works that have been successfully performed throughout Europe.

Mr. Österling attended the music course at Sjövik Community College in 1984-85 and the music teacher-training course at the Örebro High School of Music from 1985-89. He then went on to study composition at the Gothenburg College of Music from 1989-93 with Lars Johan Werle and Ole Lützow-Holm, also studying form and analysis with Lennart Hall.

Mr. Österling has been commissioned to write works by the Swedish Concert Institute and by several regional music foundations in Sweden. He has also received assignments from the Gothenburg Opera House and the Royal Opera in Stockholm. His music has been performed on Swedish Radio and at concerts throughout Sweden and abroad.

He was composer-in-residence at the western Swedish concert institute, Musik i Väst, between 1997-99; thereafter, he was composer-in-residence at the county theatre of Skövde. He has been a member of the Society of Swedish Composers (FST) since 1994, and was elected Secretary-General in 2000.
