T he Living Composers Project  

Penard, Olivier (b. 1974, Paris). French composer of mostly choral and vocal works that have been performed throughout Europe; he is also active as a conductor.

Mr. Penard studied analysis, piano, reading, and writing at the École Normale de Musique de Montreuil from 1993-95. He then studied composition with Philippe Capdenat and Guy Reibel at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in 1995 and also studied musicology at the Université de Paris IV-Sorbonne in 1997.

He is also active in other positions. As a conductor, he founded the new music ensemble Opus Neuf in 1997, which he has conducted since then, and has also conducted the female vocal ensemble Zéphyre since 2001. He also served as artistic director of the spectacle Louise Labé, Regards Détournés, which featured music by numerous composers, in Paris in 2002 and has served as composer-in-residence at the École Normale de Musique du Blanc Mesnil since 2003.

In addition to the works listed below, he has written dance, TV and theatre scores for Claude Merlin, Pierre Pirol and other directors.
