THE LIVING COMPOSERS PROJECT  

Soni Petrovski

(b. 4 January 1977, Sydney).

North Macedonian composer, born in Australia, of mostly orchestral, chamber and vocal works that have been performed throughout Europe.

Mr. Petrovski studied composition with Goce Kolarovski at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje from 1994–2001, then had postgraduate studies in composition with him there from 2001–04.

Among his honours is a prize in the competition A Place on the Disc of Jeunesses Musicales of North Macedonia (2001, for Concert Piece). His music has been performed in Austria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, Italy, North Macedonia, Poland, Serbia, Ukraine, and the UK.

He is also active in other positions. He founded the ensemble for contemporary music ALEA in Skopje in 1998 and served as its artistic director and conductor from 1998–2006. He served as a member of the general assembly of the Balkan Music Information Network in Tiranë in 2000–01 and has served on the executive board of directors of the copyright society ZAMP in Skopje since 2003.

He has taught analysis and counterpoint at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University since 2002.
