Petrovski, Soni (b. January 4, 1977, Sydney). Australian-born Macedonian composer of mostly orchestral, chamber and vocal works that have been performed throughout Europe; he is also active as a conductor.
Mr. Petrovski studied composition with Goce Kolarovski at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje from 1994-2001, with whom he has had post-graduate studies in composition there since 2001. He has also attended masterclasses with Reinhard Febel, Brian Ferneyhough, Éric Gaudibert, Pierre-Alain Jaffrennou, Faraj Karayev, Krzysztof Meyer, Aleksandr Radvilovich, Kilian Schwoon, Alexander Shchetynsky, and John Woolrich.
Among his honors are a prize in the Peace in the Balkans competition (1994, for Suite for Clarinet [withdrawn]) and a prize in the A Place on the Disc competition of Jeunesses Musicales of Macedonia (2001, for Concert Piece). His music has been performed in Austria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Poland, Serbia and Montenegro, Ukraine, and the UK.
Mr. Petrovski is also active in other positions. He founded the ALEA Contemporary Music Ensemble in Skopje in 1998 and has since served as its artistic director and principal conductor. He was also a member of the General Assembly of the Balkan Music Information Network in Tiranë in 2000-01 and has served on the executive board of ZAMP, the Macedonian copyright society, in Skopje since 2003.
He has taught analysis and counterpoint at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University since 2002.
