Pilyutikov, Sergey (b. 1965, Uzin). Ukrainian composer of orchestral, chamber and vocal works that have been performed throughout Europe and elsewhere.
Mr. Pilyutikov initially studied history at the University of Kharkiv, where he graduated in 1987. He studied composition privately with Alexander Shchetynsky from 1989–91 and then with him at the Art Institute of Kharkiv from 1991–95.
Among his honors is finalist in the Gaudeamus competition (1993, for Voices of the rivers), First Prize in the Gradus ad Parnassum competition (1994, for Variations) and the Deutsche Welle Kompositionspreis (2001, for Cantus supra librum). His music has been performed in Armenia, Bulgaria, Germany, Macedonia, Moldova, The Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the USA.
Mr. Pilyutikov is also active in other positions. He founded Ensemble Ricochet in 1999, which specializes in new music, and has since served as its artistic director. He has also served as director of the International Youth Music Forum in Kyiv since 2000.
He taught history at a secondary school in Kharkiv from 1985–91 and composition at a children's music school in Kharkiv from 1991–98.
