Pitkin, Jonathan (b. 1978, Dublin). Irish-born British composer of mostly orchestral, chamber and choral works that have been performed in Europe.
Mr. Pitkin studied at Christ Church, Oxford and studied composition with Christopher Brown at the Royal Academy of Music. In addition, he attended Kürten in 1998, where he studied with Karlheinz Stockhausen, and later studied with Guy Reibel as a special student at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in 2000. He has studied composition at the Royal College of Music since 2004, where he is working on his DMus, on a grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
His honors include the Temple Church Composition Prize (2001, for Hark! a herald voice is calling) and two selections to the short-list of the Society for the Promotion of New Music (2001, for Voices: Chamber Music [withdrawn] and Anth[rop]ology: Five Directions [withdrawn]). He participated as an assistant composer in the initiative Sound Inventors in 2002 and wrote for St. Albans High School in the scheme Adopt a Composer in 2003.
He teaches composition and musicianship at the Royal College of Music Junior Department.
