Ronchetti, Lucia (b. February 3, 1963, Rome). Italian composer of mostly stage, orchestral and chamber works that have been performed throughout Europe.
Ms. Ronchetti studied composition with Mauro Bortolotti and electronic music with Riccardo Bianchini at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome, where she earned diplomas in both subjects in 1987. She then earned a master's degree on the orchestral music of Bruno Maderna under the tutelage of Pierluigi Petrobelli at the Università 'La Sapienza' in Rome in 1987 and a diplôme d'études approfondies under the tutelage of Costin Miereanu at the Université de Paris I-Panthéon-Sorbonne in 1991. She later studied composition privately with Gérard Grisey in Paris from 1993-96, on a fellowship from the Fondation Nadia Boulanger, and earned her doctorate at the École Pratique des Hautes Études en Sorbonne in 2000, on a grant from the Fondation des Treilles in Tourtour.
Among her honors are a diploma in the Budapest competition (1987, for Tenebrosa, per difetto di luna [withdrawn]), a selected work in the Dimitris Mitropoulos competition in Athens (1997, for Schiffbruch mit Zuschauer [da Hans Blumenberg] [Study]) and a prize from the Federazione CEMAT (2000, to compose BendelSchlemihl). She has also served residencies at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart (2000-01) and the MacDowell Colony (2003), as well as terms as composer-in-residence to the Staatsoper Stuttgart (2003-04) and as a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University (2004-05). Most recently, she earned a Fulbright Fellowship (2005) and a fellowship from the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (2005-06).
She has received commissions from the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Biennale München, Ensemble 2e2m, ensemble recherche, the Experimentalstudio of the Heinrich-Strobel-Stiftung in Freiburg, the governments of France and Italy, the concert series Musik im 21. Jahrhundert, ORF, Radio France, RAI, the Staatsoper Stuttgart, the Teatro La Fenice, the Teatro Sociale in Rovigo, the Technische Universität Berlin, the WDR Sinfonieorchester, and the Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik.
