Schüeli, Felix (b. 1973, Schaffhausen). Swiss composer of mostly chamber works that have been performed throughout Europe; he is also active as a cellist.
Mr. Schüeli began cello and piano lessons at an early age and began composing at age twelve. He studied cello, choral conducting and composition at the Musikhochschule Luzern, as well as composition with Stephen Davismoon at the Royal Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow in 2001-02. In addition, he has attended masterclasses with Heinz Holliger and Hanspeter Kyburz.
His honors include First Prize in the Internationaler Wettbewerb für Komposition und Arrangement in Basel (2000), the Dinah Wolfe Memorial Award from the Royal Academy of Music and Drama (2002) and First Prize in the Wiener Sommer Seminars für Neue Musik (2002).
Initially active as a bass guitarist in jazz and rock bands, he is now well known as a cellist, specializing in new music.
