THE LIVING COMPOSERS PROJECT  

Orestis Toufektsis

(b. 1966, Tashkent).

Greek composer, born in Uzbekistan and now resident in Austria, of mostly chamber works that have been performed throughout Europe.

Mr. Toufektsis studied music theory and piano at the Contemporary Conservatory of Thessaloníki from 1985–93 while he studied survey engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloníki. He then studied with Gerd Kühr and Markus Pressl at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Graz from 1993–99 and graduated with honours.

Among his honours are the Kompositionspreis from the city of Klagenfurt (1995) and three prizes in the competition of the Hochschulerschaft der Österreichischen Kunst Universitäten (Dritter Preis, 1997, for für zwei Flöten, Altflöte und Crotales; Erster Preis, 1999, for Nalos-Ackmi; Zweiter Preis, 1999, for Arsyon).

He is also active in other positions. He has been a member of the collective of composers Die Andere Saite since 1995 and co-founded the ensemble for contemporary music ART-resonanz in 1998.

He has taught harmony and music theory at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Graz since 1999.
