THE LIVING COMPOSERS PROJECT  

Sergei Zagny

(b. 1960, Moscow).

Russian composer of interdisciplinary works that have been performed in Europe and elsewhere.

Mr. Zagny studied composition with Albert Leman and music theory with Vsevolod Zaderatsky at the P. I. Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow from 1983–88, where he had postgraduate studies in composition with Albert Leman from 1988–91.

Among his honours is the John Cage First Russian Prize in Moscow (1992). His music has been performed in Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Russia, Switzerland, the UK, and the USA.

He is also active in other positions. As a performer, he improvises on non-traditional instruments, organ and piano. He conducted the Small Garden Orchestra of the School of Individual Directing in Moscow from 1992–96 and worked at the Theremin Centre for Electroacoustic Music of the P. I. Tchaikovsky State Conservatory from 1993–95. In addition, he has written articles and poems for publications in Russia and the USA, including the journal Perspectives of New Music.

He has taught analysis, harmony and polyphony at the P. I. Tchaikovsky State Conservatory since 1992.

In addition to the works listed below, he has written music for films and stage productions.
