T he Living Composers Project

Zanolini, Bruno (b. 1945, Milan). Italian composer of orchestral, chamber, choral, vocal, and piano works that have been successfully performed throughout Europe; he is also active as a writer.

Mr. Zanolini graduated from the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan with diplomas in piano performance (1970), Italian literature (1972) and composition (1973).

He has written about many 19th- and 20th-century composers and has published technical studies on Johannes Brahms, Luigi Dallapiccola and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. In addition, he has written studies on Romantic melodrama (Gioacchino Rossini and especially Gaetano Donizetti, a volume of which has been translated into Japanese) and post-Romantic melodrama (Riccardo Zandonai).

Most importantly, he has researched in depth the uses of harmony and above all counterpoint techniques in the Renaissance and Baroque periods, to which he has dedicated two volumes (the first in collaboration with Renato Dionisi), considered among the most important works of recent decades, published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni.

He is a professor of composition at the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan, a lecturer at many international conferences and a frequent judge at international competitions.

Edizioni Suvini Zerboni publishes most of his music. In addition to the works listed below, Mr. Zanolini has arranged numerous folksongs for various choruses.
